THURSDAY | LOVE AND SEX
“The pressure of the hands causes the springs of life to flow.”
—Tokujiro Namikoshi
Bask in the Afterglow
All humans need physical touch to feel safe and connected. In psychology, there is something known as the attachment theory, which postulates that distressed infants and young children need to be held and touched in order for them to learn how to soothe and calm their own nervous systems. Research in the fields of neuroscience and psychology is finding a significant link between emotional needs being met in the first years of life and the ability to form healthy adult relationships.
The pleasure our bodies can feel is a great gift. Combine that gift with a sense of connection to someone you care about and you can open yourself to even greater satisfaction. Don’t shortchange each other by rolling over and falling asleep after sex. To lie together in a loving embrace after sex is to enjoy an important part of the process. Having your lover to play with creates many new options for enjoying your sexuality. It can also invite more complexity and complications. It helps to attend to your relationship and keep it in harmony, making sure you both get what you need. When you feel relaxed after lovemaking and are wrapped in the warm cocoon of loving arms, you feel contentment and security that you may not experience any other way during your day.
RELAX AND DRIFT AWAY
Play soft music on the radio or iPod. Make sure you set a time for it to shut off, then relax after lovemaking and take your time drifting off to sleep. Pray, meditate, or incubate a dream as you sink deeper into the in-between state between wakefulness and sleep.
